On wet or dry turf or groomed natural grass it is necessary to stay on one's feet to play the game. Just as ice hockey players must wear skates with well-sharpened blades, so players must wear shoes with smart gripping features on the tread. The shoe needs to know how to keep a player upright during high speed twists, turns, stops and starts. The shoe must also protect a player's feet, ankles, and knees.
